On 09/02/19 at 6:30 AM an alert citizen witnessed and reported to Wright County dispatch a male suspect spray painting graffiti on a wall at Hillside Cemetery near 7th ST. E and Hwy. 25. Wright County Deputies responded to the scene and documented the freshly painted graffiti. Deputies immediately reviewed surveillance video from a nearby gas station and were able to obtain a physical description of two suspects from the surveillance video that matched the description given by the reporting party. Deputies were able to locate and positively identify two adult male suspects found in the area of Meadow Oak AV and Fenning AV. near a disabled vehicle. Spray paint cans were located in the vehicle that had been occupied by the male suspects. During questioning by Deputies, one suspect, Mitchell Gott (22yo) from Monticello was placed under arrest for Criminal Damage to Property. Several other areas had recently been spray-painted in very similar fashion in Monticello including on the walls and landscaping underneath the I-94 overpass on Broadway AV E. The investigating Deputy located evidence and obtained statements implicating Gott to several of the other graffiti painting under I-94 and subsequently added additional Criminal Damage to Property charges. The second suspect was identified but has not been charged with any crimes at this time.
