Drivers License, Permits & ID
BUFFALO TESTING STATION
If you are new to the state or applying for first time permit or driver's license, you will need to go to the exam station first and show a primary ID document (birth certificate or passport) along with your out-of-state license. If the names do not match, a certified document would need to be presented (such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order showing legal name change). The license bureau will also need these forms of identification at the time of application.
Individuals entering the state with a valid out-of-state license will need to take a written test.
Written tests are given on TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAYS ONLY. The exam station is open 8:30 AM -NOON and 1:00 - 4:30 PM. No appointment is necessary when taking the written exam, but you need to give yourself at least 45 minutes per written test.
Road Tests are by appointment only. You may schedule a road test by calling: 763-682-3963, 952-476-3042, or 651-296-6911
Coming back to Minnesota? If the Minnesota record we have on file for you is still current or has been expired for less than a year, you may not have to retest.
