Truancy Diversion Services
The information below is intended to assist school staff with understanding the Wright County Truancy Program process and making truancy referrals. The Wright County Truancy Program is designed to improve attendance of juveniles at school by working in collaboration with parents, schools, and juveniles. Step One - 3-Day Truancy Referral Intake/Resource/Family Intervention Step One - 3-Day Truancy ReferralAfter the child has had 3 or more unexcused absences on 3 different days, the school makes a referral to Wright County Human Services using the 3-Day Truancy Referral Form below. The child and parent are invited to attend the Truancy Mediation Meeting to gain knowledge of the truancy laws including possible dispositions in truancy cases, as well as understanding the effects that truancy has on a child's future. There is an administrative charge of $15 for this class. The student and/or parent must pay and pre-register before the next Truancy meeting. The meetings take place in the evening at the Wright County Government Center. 3-Day Truancy Referral Form - Adobe PDF (printable) Step Two - 5-Day Truancy ReferralIf the child continues to be truant (5 unexcused days), the family is referred to the Wright County Student Attendance Review Board (SARB) using the 5-Day Truancy Referral Form below. The family meets with representatives from the school, Wright County Human Services, and potentially Probation, to identify and address any issues that are preventing the child from attending school and being a successful student. The SARB tailors their recommendations to the specific circumstances of each child and the family signs a contract to work towards resolving the child's truant behavior. When a student reaches this point their attendance is also monitored by Wright County 5-Day Truancy Referral Form - Adobe PDF (printable) Step Three - 7 or More Unexcused AbsencesThe third step is the filing of the truancy petition.
