Parks & Rec Releases 2021 Spring/Summer Events Schedule

Wright County Parks & Recreation has announced its spring and summer 2021 events schedule. Most of the events are for the entire family and many are free of charge.

Here is the complete listing of event for April through August: 

SPRING EVENTS

Program: Hiking Wright. Date and Time: Saturday, April 24 (9-10:30 a.m.). Location: Bertram Chain of Lakes Park. Participation Fee: Free. Description: Trail hike for all ages.

Program: Master of Disguise. Date and Time: Thursday, April 29 (3:30-5 p.m.). Location: Robert Ney Nature Center. Participation Fee: $10 per person. Description: An interactive program for children ages 5-12 that shows how wildlife coloration serves as a camouflaging mechanism to protect themselves from prey animals and hide in plain sight.

Program: Hiking Wright. Date and Time: Saturday, May 8 (9-10:30 a.m.). Location: Robert Ney Park. Participation Fee: Free. Description: Trail hike for all ages.

Program: Fungus Among Us. Date and Time: Saturday, May 15 (9-11:30 a.m.). Location: Bertram Chain of Lakes Park. Participation Fee: Free. Description: Martin Dibben gives an on-trail/off-trail tour detailing fungus/mushrooms located in the park, including which are and are not edible.

Program: Raptor Center. Date and Time: Saturday, May 29 (two shows: 11 a.m. to noon and 12:30-1:30 p.m.). Location: Bertram Chain of Lake Park. Participation Fee: $10. Description: The University of Minnesota’s Raptor Center will be bringing three birds (typically including a hawk and an owl) to teach about the lives of these hunting bird predators.

SUMMER EVENTS

Program: Fishing with MN Trout. Date and Time: Saturday, June 5 (1-3 p.m.). Location: Bertram Chain of Lakes Park. Participation Fee: $5. Description: Focused on children, the program is a beginner’s teaching course on fishing. Poles and bait are provided.

Program: Orienteering. Date and Time: Saturday, June 12 (1-3 p.m.). Location: Collinwood Regional Park and Campground. Participation Fee: Free. Description: Teaching how to use a compass and how to determine what direction you are heading when in the woods/forests – with or without a compass.

Program: Fishing with MN Trout. Date and Time: Saturday, June 19 (1-3 p.m.). Location: Bertram Chain of Lakes Park. Participation Fee: $5. Description: Focused on children, the program is a beginner’s teaching course on fishing. Poles and bait are provided.

Program: Hiking Wright. Date and Time: Saturday, June 19 (9-10:30 a.m.). Location: Harry Larson Park. Participation Fee: Free. Description: Trail hike for all ages.

Program: Marsh, Prairie and Forest. Date and Time: Friday, June 25 (9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.). Location: Robert Ney Nature Center. Participation Fee: $30. Description: A program designed for elementary school-aged children (ages 5-12), the program is a one-day camp that teaches how marshes, prairies and forests work together in the wildlife ecosystem. 

Program: Paddle On! Kayaking. Date and Time: Saturday, July 10 (1-3 p.m.). Location: Bertram Chain of Lakes Park. Participation Fee: $10. Description: Kayaking for all ages and experience levels. Instruction is provided to help make novices comfortable on the water in a kayak. Kayaks and paddles are provided.

Program: Backyard Birds. Date and Time: Saturday, July 17 (1-3 p.m.). Location: Schroeder Park and Campground. Participation Fee: Free. Description: Participants will be taught how to locate and identify birds, starting with the large blue martin population that annually inhabits the park.

Program: Hiking Wright. Date and Time: Saturday, July 17 (9-10:30 a.m.). Location: Clearwater-Pleasant Regional Park. Participation Fee: Free. Description: Trail hike for all ages.

Program: Paddle On! Moonlit Kayaking. Date and Time: Saturday, July 24 (8-10 p.m.). Location: Bertram Chain of Lakes Park. Participation Fee: $10. Description: An evening kayaking event for individuals, couples and families. Kayaks and paddles provided.

Program: Paddle On! Kayaking. Date and Time: Saturday, Aug. 14 (1-3 p.m.). Location: Bertram Chain of Lakes Park. Participation Fee: $10. Description: Kayaking for all ages and experience levels. Instruction provided for those new to kayaking. Kayaks and paddles are provided.

Program: Outdoor Survival. Date and Time: Saturday, Aug. 21 (1-3 p.m.). Location: Bertram Chain of Lakes Campground. Participation Fee: Free. Description: Instructional class that teaches skills such as rope tying, building a shelter, techniques to use if you get lost in the woods and what foods in the wild are edible and which should be avoided.

Program: Hiking Wright. Date and Time: Saturday, Aug. 21 (9-10:30 a.m.). Location: Carl Johnson Park. Participation Fee: Free. Description: Trail hike for all ages.
