An Update on the County Road 118 project in Monticello
The contractor continues to make progress on the completion of the project. A majority of the grading, curb and gutter and utility work has been completed on the roundabout with the exception of the north leg of the roundabout. The completion of the east and west legs of the roundabout has been delayed due to rain days over the last couple weeks. The contractor is working to have the roundabout open in the east-west direction by Tuesday, September 7, for the first day of school. If the roundabout is not complete, the detour will need to be followed for school traffic.
Once the east and west legs are complete, the contractor will remove the bypass lane and begin construction on the north leg of the roundabout. At that point, a detour will be in place that will utilize Chelsea Road and Edmonson Avenue. The contractor has completed 90 percent of the retaining wall near the City Park, and the wall is expected to be complete this week. Below are images of the progress from last week.
In addition to paving the roundabout, the contractor will be paving various segments of County Road 118. They will also begin work on the area near Highway 37 in the coming weeks. Please adhere to the detour routes posted, and give yourself additional time if using these routes.
