For the second straight year, the Minnesota Department of Transportation sponsored a “Name a Snowplow” contest for all eight MnDOT districts in the state. In its inaugural event, arguably the worst name that made the list of 50 finalists won – Plowy McPlowface.
This year, there were strong contenders that battled it out in online voting. In all, more than 350,000 votes were cast and, with more than 40,000 votes, the winner was Betty Whiteout – a tribute to the iconic actress Betty White.
The top eight vote-getters will get their names put on a plow for a specific district. Wright County is in District 3 and will get the plow Scoop Dogg.
Here are the winning entries and their district:
District 1 (northeast Minnesota): No More Mr. Ice Guy
District 2 (northwest Minnesota): Blizzard of Oz
District 3 (central Minnesota): Scoop Dogg
District 4 (westcentral Minnesota): The Big Leplowski
District 5 (Twin Cities metro district): Plowasaurus Rex
District 6 (southeast Minnesota): Edward Blizzardhands
District 7 (southwest/southcentral Minnesota): Ctrl Salt Delete
District 8 (southwest and central Minnesota): Betty Whiteout
