The application period for veteran services bonuses for those who served in the armed forces from Sept. 11, 2001 to Aug. 30, 2021 has opened.
In its 2022 session, the Minnesota Legislature unanimously passed a veterans omnibus bill that included $25 million for service bonuses for post-9/11 veterans and Gold Star families.
There are three tiers of bonuses. One is a $600 bonus for veterans or current service members who served honorably that were not awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal or Afghanistan Campaign Medal. A $1,200 bonus is available if the veteran or currently serving service member served honorably and received one of the aforementioned medals. A $2,000 bonus is available for the beneficiary of a veteran who died as a result of a service-connected injury, disease or condition while in federal service and was awarded one of the four medals listed above.
