License Center Taking Walk-Ins for Class D Written Tests Tuesday

A Message from the Wright County License Center:

The License Center is an approved third-party proctor for the Class D Written Knowledge Exam.  The License Center offers this service by appointment on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Since our office is closed in observance of Thanksgiving, we are offering walk in service for the Class D written exam from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22 Currently, all written test appointments are booked for Monday, Nov. 21 and Wednesday, Nov. 23. Our staff recognizes the demand for written testing is high since the State Exam stations are either booked out or offering limited appointments. A reminder that our location does not offer any road tests in accordance with state statute, nor can we administer commercial knowledge tests or motorcycle knowledge tests. Unlike our scheduled appointments, wait time for walk in service will vary depending on customer flow. We currently have six terminals for testing.

As a third-party proctor, there is a $10 fee due at time of exam. The knowledge test is offered electronically only, and it can be taken in English or Spanish. Everyone must provide proper identification documents and their social security number prior to taking the exam. For applicants under 18 years old, the ‘Blue Card’ from the mandatory classroom course is also a requirement. The License Center accepts all forms of payment (cash, check or credit card with an additional service fee). Testers who pass their knowledge test can apply for their credential at our service counter. The Class D written knowledge exam is needed for new drivers wanting to obtain an Instruction Permit, current drivers transferring their out of state license to Minnesota or current Minnesota residents whose driver’s license or permit has been expired for more than one calendar year.

Walk-in service for the Class D written exam is limited to 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22. This service will continue by appointment only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Appointments can be made up to 30 days in advance at this link: https://wcomnappt.cxmflow.com/Appointment/Index/2c052fc7-571f-4b76-9790-7e91f103c408

Identification Requirements can be found at this link: https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/dvs/forms-documents/Documents/IdentificationRequirements_English.pdf

Again, no road tests of any type, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) written tests, or motorcycle permit tests are offered at the License Center in accordance with state statute.  If you have taken the written exam three times or more, you must use a State Exam Station to take any additional tests.
