Here we go again.
In what has been a never-ending story, this morning the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced yet another extension to the requirement of REAL ID to board domestic airplane flights from May 2023 to May 2025.
The baffling odyssey of REAL ID began in late 2001 with the formation of a Congressional committee in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. Initially, it was given 10 years for all states to implement. It was then pushed back another five years to 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic pushed it back to May 3, 2023. This morning’s announcement pushes it back another two years to May 7, 2025.
