A Message from Wright County Public Health:
Wright County Public Health is offering a pair of training sessions later this month dealing with suicide prevention. The first is titled “QPR (Questions, Persuade, Refer) Suicide Prevention Training” for the public from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 24 at Wright County Government Center (3650 Braddock Ave NE Buffalo, MN) in Conference Room 1103.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer – the three simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. All are invited to come to learn to: Recognize the warning signs of suicide, know how to offer hope, know how to get help, and save a life. Registration is not required but encouraged: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/qpr-suicide-prevention-training-tickets-624365503027
The second training session is titled “Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM)” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 31. This session will be conducted virtually on Zoom. You must have completed suicide prevention training before attending CALM. This course reviews public health data on suicide and access to lethal means. It highlights why and how to work with at-risk clients and their families or support persons to reduce their access to highly lethal means, in a way that is collaborative, respectful, and practical.
