A Message from University of Minnesota Extension:
A growing hobby in Minnesota is beekeeping and U of M Extension is offering a field day in Wright County.
Dr. Katie Lee, University of Minnesota Extension Apiculture Educator for a free in-person workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 25, at Big Woods Nectar (14688 Grover Ave. NE, Clearwater. The workshop will include teaching participants about colony handling, common disease and insect pests and safety information for beekeepers and bees.
For the Field Day program, bee veils and bee jackets will be provided for participants to wear during the workshop. Participants are required to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes in the apiary. There is the potential for bee stings so if you have adverse reactions to bee stings, you should consult your doctor before attending the workshop. If you are allergic to honey bees, you are advised not attend. All participants must be 18 years of age or older.
Pre-registration is required and workshops have limited amount of spaces (there are spaces available as of Monday, May 22). You can pre-register at z.umn.edu/beekeepingdays2023 to reserve your spot.
