A public memorial service and funeral for Fargo Police Department Officer Jake Wallin, a 2018 graduate of St. Michael-Albertville High School, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22 at Pequot Lakes High School, followed by a private graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa. Wallin was ambushed while responding to a traffic accident call Friday, July 14 and was killed by Mohamed Barakat. Barakat was shot and killed by a fellow Fargo Police Department Officer.
Fargo P.D. will lead an escort of Wallin’s coffin Saturday, leaving Fargo at 5:30 a.m. with an estimated arrival at Pequot Lakes High School at 9 a.m. Due to public safety concerns with a travel route that will go through several small towns in Minnesota, the law enforcement escort will be limited to Fargo Police Department vehicles and buses carrying Fargo Police Department personnel.
The procession will go travel eastbound on I-94 in Fargo to northbound Highway 336 in Minnesota to eastbound Highway 10 to Motley to eastbound Highway 210 to Baxter to northbound Highway 371 to Pequot Lakes. Law enforcement agencies, first responders and members of the public are encouraged to line the route to show support for Officer Wallin and his family.
