What is "Sentence to Service"?: This is a program which places inmates in a work crew supervised by an employee of the Minnesota Department of Corrections. The crew performs work on public or non-profit projects, primarily within Wright County. The projects include such mundane tasks as roadside weed and brush control, to the more skilled and rewarding jobs like the construction of a log cabin in a state park. Participants in this program receive time off their sentences, or perform this service in lieu of payment of a fine.

1. What are the most common crimes in Wright County?: The most common crimes in Wright County are property crimes (burglary, theft, criminal damage to property, issuance of worthless checks, etc.), making up the vast majority of all reported crimes in the county.

2. Who do I call if I have information on a crime?: If the crime is in progress or it is an emergency call 911. For any information that is not an emergency call 763-682-1162 and your call will be directed to the proper person.

3. What types of surfaces are best for developing latent prints?: Latent prints can be developed from a variety of surfaces using the proper technique but some of the easier surfaces to work with are clean, non-porous surfaces such as metal or glass.

6. Does Wright County prosecute worthless checks?: Yes, Wright County does prosecute worthless checks passed in Wright County if they meet certain criteria.

7. Does the Sheriff's office collect money for the worthless checks?: No, the Sheriff's Office is not a collection agency. However, the check writer when prosecuted may be found guilty of a misdemeanor which may result in a fine and restitution for the check as ordered by the court.

8. What do I do if I receive a worthless check and want to have it prosecuted?: To obtain the forms and instructions, you may contact the Sheriff's Office Monday - Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. either in person or by calling 763-682-7630.

9. What type of worthless checks are not considered criminal and cannot be prosecuted?: Post-dated checks, second/third party checks etc., checks accepted to hold, checks given as payment on an account, stop payment checks, checks in which partial payment has been received, and rent checks are the types of checks that are not considered criminal and therefore cannot be prosecuted.
