Where/How are Military Discharges filed?: All military discharges are recorded in the Recorder's office, however, you must contact the Veteran's Services Office in order to facilitate the filing of your DD214 or obtain a certified copy of your DD214 that has been previously filed. 1. How do I obtain a certified copy of my birth certificate?: A Tangible Interest form is required to be filled out prior to receiving a certified copy of a certificate. We will view your current ID at the time of application. The form will need to be notarized if you are applying by mail. If you live out of state, contact our office for payment options.

3. How do I apply for a marriage license?: Marriage licenses can be obtained from the Recorder's office located on the 1st floor at the Wright County Government Center. Appointments are required between 8:15 am - 4:00 pm. Please complete an eMarriage Application online prior to your arrival or public terminals are available for use in our office. We will print the application when you arrive to apply for the license. Both parties must appear in person to complete the application process.

4. How do I obtain a certified copy of a marriage certificate?: Marriage Certificates are obtained in the county where you originally applied for the license for a fee of $9.00. Minnesota Official Marriage System "MOMS" can assist you in locating where the marriage license was issued in Minnesota.

6. How do I find out which department can assist with quesitons about my property?: Real Property Land Transactions can involve multiple departments within Wright County depending on the complexity of the transaction. 7. Is my property Abstract or Torrens?: On the Recorder's office home page under "Related Documents", click on "Torrens Property". There is a list of all the Torrens properties in our County. If your property is not listed then it is Abstract. NOTE: If your property is metes & bounds and contains a Section, Township and Range within the legal description you may want to contact our office to confirm whether or not it's Torrens. 8. How do I obtain a copy of my deed?: The cost for copies is $1.00 per page - mail a check with a self addressed return envelope to the Recorder's Office. Public users can register for our occasional remote access through Landshark and access real estate data, images and pay online 24/7.

12. What is a mortgage foreclosure a/k/a sheriff certificate of sale?: This legal document is recorded in the recorder's office to show that the Sheriff sold land for which the mortgagor/owner in a Mortgage had not made the payments so that the mortgagee/bank could get their money out of the property. Usually the mortgagee/bank is the one to buy the property, but anyone can buy in at the sale. The Sheriff's Certificate is recorded in the Recorder's office once the sale takes place at the Wright County Sheriff's office. Questions contact the attorney that handled the foreclosure on behalf of the bank or consult with a real estate attorney.

13. How do I obtain a list of mortgage foreclosures a/k/a sheriff certificate of sales: The county does not maintain any lists. The newspapers publish information about foreclosure sales. Mortgage foreclosures are drafted and handled by attorneys hired by the bank. The Sheriff's office conducts the foreclosure sales. 14. How much does it cost to record a document?: $46.00 cash or check payable to the Recorder. Recorder Fee Schedule

15. Can I remove or change documents in the real estate/property records?: Records cannot be altered or removed once they are recorded. Legal documents can be filed to reflect changes and/or corrections to the record. Please contact a real estate attorney or your title company for assistance with these matters. The recorders office doesn't draft documents or provide legal counsel.
